MSSA specializes in the design of educational facilities. Natural light plays an important role in our school designs. Skylights and interior courts provide light in hallway corridors as well as interior classrooms. Circulation coupled with natural light allows a student to always know where they are and where they have been. A student can always see through to the exterior at the end of the corridors. Circulation is intuitive in our designs with corridor intersections expanded to minimize congestion.
Mechanical platforms (located above classroom wing corridors) and mechanical corridors (located between classroom wings) accommodate the HVAC system components for the classrooms as well as data and communications infrastructure. They allow ongoing maintenance of the mechanical, electrical and low voltage building systems without interruption of the use of the classrooms. Not only does this arrangement facilitate the ongoing maintenance operations, the absence of HVAC equipment on the exterior enhances the aesthetics of the facade.
