SPACIOUS CENTER PROVIDES GATHERING PLACE FOR SENIORS
One of the largest in the state, the Spalding County Senior Center was designed to bring seniors together in a place with the warmth of home. It was designed and built using a portion of a retail facility previously purchased by the county. Reclaimed materials include structural steel frame, load-bearing walls, and concrete slab.
Areas such as the living room, rotunda gallery, meeting rooms, and a banquet hall promote social gatherings. Community programs offered include art, ceramics, exercise, computer training, quilting, and games. A billiards room hosts tournaments for seniors. On each side of the building, porches with ceiling fans provide a relaxing afternoon in the shade, and views from activity rooms are shaded. Future plans include open terraces connected to covered porches and an area for outdoor games, seating, and access to walking paths.
